Assessment Procedures

We believe that an ongoing effort to resolve the methodological issues will ensure a successful MS-CPAS2 by:

  • developing and field-testing the highest quality test items at appropriate Depth of Knowledge that validly and reliably measure each student’s degree of technical-skill mastery and academic attainment.
  • applying research-based psychometrics to the design and implementation of the assessments to ensure their technical quality.
  • conducting item-writing meetings that involve content experts to ensure test results that accurately measure the appropriate DOK.
  • working closely with assessment coordinators to ensure the administration of the MS-CPAS2 is efficient and that the appropriate security is in place.
  • scoring and reporting the results accurately and on time in ways that are meaningful to students, parents, teachers and other Mississippi educators and stakeholders (e.g., legislators) and meeting the timeline for reporting.
  • disseminating the MS-CPAS2 reports to the MDE and school administrators.
  • assisting the state in effectively working with teachers, business communities and the general public in fostering understanding of the MS-CPAS2, its goals and its operation.
  • assisting the MDE in setting standards that are meaningful for both education and industry use, are statistically sound, and can be compared with previous data already obtained with MS-CPAS2.
  • providing training for administrators and teachers that will lead to school improvement.
  • providing training for test coordinators to ensure the security and manageability of the test administration.
