Associate Superintendent
Office of Career and Technical Education and Workforce Development

Welcome to the 2013 Mississippi Department of Education/Mississippi Association for Career and Technical Education Summer Conference.

We are excited that you decided to attend this year’s summer conference! Our team has put together an event that we believe will impact you as career and technical education professionals. There will be general-interest breakout sessions, mingling opportunities, and vendor displays for everyone.  This conference is designed with the classroom in mind. You’ve asked us for more opportunities to meet with State Department Technical Assistance staff and to meet with each other to network and learn. As a result, we have scheduled an entire two days for affiliates to meet with their teachers, MDE staff, student organization staff, and RCU staff in their specific areas to recharge, plan, and train for the upcoming school year. We believe this will make a positive difference in our state as we move forward.

The Mississippi Department of Education and the Mississippi Association for Career and Technical Education look forward to seeing you, meeting with you, and getting ideas on how to make this conference even better next year!

Executive Director
Mississippi Association for Career and Technical Education

On behalf of the Mississippi Association for Career and Technical Education, I would like to welcome you to our summer conference. The Department of Education, the RCU, and the MS ACTE Board have prepared a conference that we feel will be beneficial to all attendees.

ACTE has many activities planned for the upcoming year. Some of these include the Fall District Dinner Meetings, the National ACTE Conference, Legislative Day, and the Region IV Conference. Dates and locations will be posted on the calendar of events on our website: Mississippiacte.com. I hope you will attend as many of these activities as possible. I would encourage you to nominate students and coworkers for the various awards provided by ACTE. You can download the nomination forms from the website.

If you are not a current member of ACTE, let me invite you to join. We are the largest national educational association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for careers.

Again, thanks for attending our conference. If I can be of assistance to you or your center, please let me know.

President
Mississippi Association for Career and Technical Education

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has worked on this year’s MS ACTE/MDE Summer Conference with a special thanks going to Linda Bath, Mike Mulvihill, Shawn Bokros, and Emily Johnson.  I know it will be an exciting and worthwhile opportunity for all who attend.   Sessions have been planned for all affiliate groups.  You will be able to meet with MDE Staff and RCU Staff to receive update information on your specific area as well as network with fellow CTE Educators. Time has been allotted for you to visit vendors and discuss the latest technology and equipment.

Also let me take a moment to thank you for allowing me to serve as your president and to encourage each member to recruit new members for the MS ACTE.

Remember, after all, “It’s a sorry dog that won’t bark in its own yard.”  So let’s tell everybody how we, in Career and Technical Education, are preparing our students for the future.

I look forward to seeing you at summer conference.
