The Mississippi State University Center for Cyber Education is accepting applications for the Code.org Computer Science Discoveries and Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles trainings scheduled for this summer.

CS Discoveries training will be held June 1-5 in southern Mississippi, June 8-12 in central Mississippi and June 15-19 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and in the northern part of the state.

AP CS Principles will be held June 15-19 in central Mississippi.

Locations will be finalized at a later date, but teachers and administrators can apply for the trainings online at https://code.org/educate/professional-learning/program-information?partner=62.

CS Discoveries is a required portion of the new Cyber Foundations course and affiliated endorsement. In preparation for the new curriculum being approved for the 2020-2021 school year, teachers who have ICT I, ICT II and Technology Foundations endorsements but have yet to receive the training are strongly encouraged to apply.

The AP CS Principles course is a new offering that gives all students in Grades 10-12 the opportunity to earn an AP course credit on their transcripts. No prerequisites or previous CS experience are required for students wishing to take the course.

More than 70 percent of students nationwide who have taken the AP CS Principles exam scored a 3 or higher on a 5-point scale.

The AP CS Principles training through the CCE and a valid teaching license are required to teach the course.
